Volitia Faces Battle, 2000, 14" x 66", color pencil on paper
This is a struggle for territory. The mission is both freedom and the pursuit of reciprocal harm. The action takes the form of duck-and-cover, surprise attacks and defensive maneuvers, flying debris and sharp explosions of yellow. Volitia dreams of a strategic advantage, an exemption from pain. Her wish is for abstraction, the disembodied liberation. But Volitia is caught, attached to her body, grounded by content and referential stability ... willing the battle to continue.
